All our flowers are hand delivered by own own trained delivery drivers. We do not use a courier service to deliver flowers as we feel it is bad for the environment and is poor value for money.
Spend 16% on packaging and 32% on "free" Delivery and get £13 pounds worth of flowers for a typical £25 box of flowers that is delivered by a courier.
When you order flowers that are going to be delivered by a courier a lot more packaging goes into your gift than if they were to be delivered by a florist. The flowers need this packaging for protection as the bunch needs protection in its long journey from the central packing warehouse to the recipients house anywhere is the country.
The box of flowers is transported along with all the other packages a courier distributes that are not as fragile. Your box of flowers can get damaged or tipped over when it is goes through the couriers distribution hubs. Your gift can get crushed by other items if it is not loaded correctly whenever it changes delivery lorries.
This delivery services can cost anywhere between £6 - £9 inc VAT. A florists typical delivery charge is £3 inc VAT.
The packaging can cost anywhere between £4 and £5 inc VAT. Our packaging cost is 80p inc VAT for a typical Hand Tied bunch of flowers.
There is also an environmental cost for the extra miles traveled by the flowers and the packaging it requires to keep it safe.
When we need to send flowers outside our delivery area, we send the order electronically through the internet to another highly skilled florist who makes up the flowers and delivers them in their own florist van along with all their other local orders.
What about the flowers??
As there is is only £13 left for the flowers, the flowers used are the shorter cheaper imported Kenyan flowers that a reputable florist does not normally stock for use in gifts. We generally use them for cheap bunches outside our shops. Costing around £5 for 10, sometimes cheaper.
The photographs of the products are taken in such a way to make the flowers look bigger than they actually are. The recommended rose length for use in the courier boxed flowers is 40cm so after they have been conditioned, then arranged into the box they can be a little shorter. Also when they arrive at their destination and are taken out of the packaging it is recommended that at least 1 inch is cut from the bottom of the stems. So in the end the flowers may not stand so tall in the vase of your chosen person's home.
